Phantom Ranch 2011

Let us take you on an amazing route through almost two billion years in geologic time! Our itinerary features accommodations throughout, excellent meals, expert guides and two full nights at Phantom Ranch. This trip is completely lodge-based with no camping and we carry day packs with extra clothing and personal gear.

Day 1
South Rim Grand Canyon
Plan to arrive by late afternoon. We will stay at one of the Grand Canyon Lodges on the South Rim. Dinner included

Day 2
South Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch
Today's descent is 7 miles and 4,780 feet. The trail begins with a series of switchbacks 1,200 feet, to Cedar Ridge. From here we traverse the Tonto platform before dropping into the inner gorge. The final part of our hike takes us along the Colorado River and over a suspension bridge until we find Bright Angel Creek at the confluence with the Colorado River, and Phantom Ranch.

Hiking 7 miles

Terrain A well maintained trail that descends from 7,200 feet at the trail head to approximately 2,500 feet at the Colorado River.

Day 3
Day Hiking: Clear Creek Trail – River Trail  
You have the option to hike the beautiful Clear Creek Trail and River Trail or choose to use this day for relaxation.

Hiking 3-5 miles optional

Elevation gain/loss up to 1,000 feet

Day 4
Bright Angel Trail to South Rim  
We ascend the canyon via the Bright Angel Trail. After crossing the Colorado River, we'll climb  out of the inner gorge to beautiful Indian Garden where we will have lunch and refill with water before continuing through the redwall layer. Tonight we will celebrate at the historic El Tovar hotel.

Hiking 9.6 miles
Terrain A well maintained trail with a 4,300 foot elevation ascent to the South Rim.

Day 5
Explore the South Rim
Before you bid farewell to la Grande Dame, we'll spend time exploring the South Rim. Breakfast included
