Grandview Loop

Day 1
We will meet at Bright Angel Lodge or the trailhead at the South Rim.  We will trek 3.5 miles down to Horseshoe Mesa where we will relax before we will continue  to Cottonwood Creek on the west side of Horseshoe Mesa. Here we will camp among the Fremont Cottonwoods. Our scenic campsite offers great views of of the cliffs of Horseshoe Mesa and an array of colorful buttes that frame the north rim.

Day 2
Today we pack up and connect with the Tonto Trail around Horseshoe Mesa for 4.2 miles to a junction above Hance Creek.  We will get glances of the inner gorge and your first view of the Colorado River from where you can hear the sounds of Sockdolager Rapids.  Before dropping 800 feet below the Tonto plateau and camping along Hance Creek we will gain views of The Sinking Ship, Coronado Butte and the Ponderosa pine forests atop the south rim.

Day 3
We begin our ascent out of Hance Creek, up toward Horseshoe Mesa. We will replenish our water at Miner’s Spring, just off the main trail. Our ascent continues as we rejoin the Grandview trail on Horseshoe Mesa and retrace our steps to Grandview Point.  What a beautiful trail!

Day 4 (optional)
A fourth day may be added, and if so, we will camp on Horseshoe Mesa, explore and examine the relics of the 19th century mining era found near the mesa, hike to a plateau and explore the cave of the domes.
